“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:24-25

The words “let us” appear three times in Hebrews 10:19-25. The writer is reminding us that the Christian life is not an individual activity but a team endeavor. We need one another. We are not designed to follow Jesus alone. There are things we need to do to maintain our unity in Christ.
In verse 22, we are called to “draw near to God” in a unified manner. We are to PRAY together. We are to praise God with one another. We are to celebrate and rejoice together in our faith. Much like a team carrying a coach on its shoulders after a landmark victory, Christians are to be united in lifting up Jesus.
Next, in verse 23, we are challenged to “hold unswervingly” to our hope. We are to POSSESS our faith. Jesus should be Lord over everything, everywhere and all the time. There should be no area of a believer’s life that Jesus does not touch.
Finally, in verses 24-25, we are instructed to “spur one another on.” We are to PROVOKE, in a positive sense, one another in following Christ. Perhaps a word that better fits the mindset of an athlete is “challenge.” As Christians “meet together,” we are to encourage one another to grow in Christ and push one another toward a deeper relationship with Him.
