It’s always good to reflect on our blessings and the goodness of God in our lives. We’re thankful for our health, a roof over our heads, food on the table, and our loved ones. But I want you to go deeper and thank the Lord for what He has done for you that goes beyond these everyday blessings.

The temporal things God does for us is because of His love for us. In fact, He loves the whole world — righteous and unrighteous alike. Jesus taught in Matthew 5:45, “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

He loved the world so much that He gave the life of His Son to satisfy the penalty for our sin (John 3:16-18). Jesus Christ died of His own free will (John 10:17-18). In fact, this is the very reason He came into the world (Matthew 20:28). Jesus didn’t die for your sins and mine as a matter of pity, but as a matter of purpose (John 10:11). The best part is that He didn’t do it just for the so-called good people; Christ died for His enemies (Romans 5:6-8).

So, as you celebrate God’s goodness, certainly be thankful for all the good stuff in your life, but also remember the thing we should be most thankful for is what Paul declares about Christ in 2 Corinthians 9:15: “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”
