My son, Matthew, and I like to go fishing together. On one of our fishing trips, it only took five minutes before we caught our first fish. For the day, we caught about 30 small-to-mid-sized bluegill fish. Matthew had a great time, and I had a great time watching my boy catch all of those fish.

At that pond, some people have caught largemouth bass around 6-9 pounds. Now that’s a big fish! So as my son continued to reel in those bluegills, I continued to fish for the bass. Unfortunately, I wasn’t successful in my efforts that day.

The Bible tells us to be fishers of men, to make disciples of all the nations. It doesn’t say to only try and catch the big ones. Sometimes, I think we as Christians concentrate only on the big fish. For example, we might think, “If that CEO became a Christian, just think about all of the things he could do for the Kingdom of God.” We can forget to be fishers of all men. From our teammates to our neighbors to the cashiers that greet us every time we’re at the grocery store, there are a lot of people out there who need Jesus.

Many times, we will just walk right by them, not taking the time to let them see Jesus in us because we are too busy, or maybe we think they look important. When we have a chance to share Jesus, we should not judge whether or not we should tell this person or that person, but we should share the light of Christ with whoever we are with.

Help fill Heaven with “fish” of all sizes and kinds.
