Daily Devotional: Tuesday, May 14 - Hard Hits Of Life

“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'” — Isaiah 55:8-9

When Florida Panthers player David Booth suffered a significant injury because of a hard hit, it ruined a dream of playing for the 2010 U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Though his dreams were put on hold, at least for four more years, he still found solace in the hope that God could have a greater purpose in mind, even if he didn’t know or understand. “Hopefully, I can use it in a way that will praise God,” Booth said at the time. “Maybe that’s why I’m going through it, so I’ll get to share my story on my faith.”

Our vision can sometimes be blurred by the hard hits of life, but if we focus on the fact that God is sovereign, that He loves us and that He has our best interests in mind, we should never feel overwhelmed or feel like our life is out of control, or is wasted.

Father God, please help us to keep our focus on You so that we can live a life pleasing to You, and so that others can see You in us. Help us remember Your ways and thoughts are higher, and You don’t waste a thing that can be used for Your glory.
