Daily Devotional: Tuesday, August 13 - The Danger In Surrender

“Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.'” — Luke 8:47-48

What if surrendering was the last thing you wanted to do, but the best thing you could do for yourself? What if submitting to the prompting of the Holy Spirit could put you in the path of a King, a Savior who could restore, deliver and heal? What would you do?

Well, in Luke 8:43-48, there was a woman who had to answer all of these questions and more. She had been bleeding for 12 years and had spent all she had on doctors, yet could not be healed by any. She was probably suffering from excruciating back pain, numbness in her limbs, a lack of energy, endless agony and constant discomfort. Not to mention that she was suffering in silence and was alone, because according to Jewish law she was ceremonially unclean, which meant she could not be around anyone. If she were to go out in public, she would have been stoned to death. So she weighed her options and ventured out anyway.

She heard about a man who could heal with a touch and speak life with a word, so she pressed through a crowd to get what she could not get on her own. She touched Him — and immediately she was healed.

We all must come to the end of ourselves where there is nothing else but Him. For her, Jesus was worth the risk. How about you?
