“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” — Hebrews 4:16

A former starting safety for the Houston Texans attended the church I pastored in Houston. He gave me his cellphone number and invited me to his house for a Bible study with some of his teammates. We’d grab lunch on his days off too. A few months later, I texted him and didn’t hear from him. I saw him at church and asked him if he had gotten my text message. He told me that he changed his number and gave me his new number.
I then talked to several other Texans players who attended our church or Rockets players I knew and they told me they either keep changing numbers or have two cellphones. They do this because sometimes they give their number to friends who then give it out to their friends. Then the players get calls and texts from people they don’t know asking for tickets or money.
They get overwhelmed with people asking for stuff, so they change their number. Or they have two phones — one phone with a number they give out to people and one phone with a number they rarely give out. One Rockets player told me that he never answers his phone with the number he gives out, and it has hundreds of unanswered voicemails and text messages.
It is understandable that these players can be overwhelmed with people trying to reach them. But God is never overwhelmed with His followers reaching out to Him. He never gets tired of you asking in prayer. He won’t change His number. So pray and ask God to help you in every circumstance.
