Daily Devotional: Friday, May 30 – Pressure To Perform

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” — Galatians 1:10

In sports, the pressure to perform is real. Athletes often feel the heavy weight of having to prove themselves — whether it’s earning a starting spot, impressing coaches, or silencing the critics. It’s easy to fall into a performance trap, thinking your worth is measured by your stats, your playing time, or your coach’s approval.

But here’s the truth: You don’t have to prove what God has already declared. When Paul wrote Galatians 1:10, he was reminding believers that living for God means we stop chasing the applause of people. That includes your coaches. Your identity as an athlete doesn’t start with performance; it starts with purpose. And that purpose is rooted in being chosen by God. You can’t fulfill your God-given purpose and be obsessed with people’s approval. One will always cancel the other.

Yes, honor your coaches. Work hard. Compete with excellence. But don’t do it to prove your worth. Do it because your worth is already secure in Christ.

When you play free, your motivation shifts. You’re not grinding for approval. You’re playing from a place of confidence, not insecurity. And that freedom? It changes everything — your mindset, your game, and most definitely, your influence.

Today, ask yourself: Am I trying to prove something? Or am I playing from a place of knowing I’m already approved by God?

Lay down the pressure to impress. Pick up the truth that you’re already enough, because Jesus is more than enough in you.
