“When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up — one on one side, one on the other — so that his hands remained steady till sunset.” — Exodus 17:12

To end his 21-year NHL career, Marc-André Fleury suited up one last time for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a preseason game Sept. 27, 2025. What made this so special was that he had already announced his retirement after last season with the Minnesota Wild.
There is no doubt Fleury will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible in 2027. His accolades easily make him one of the most decorated goaltenders in NHL history. However, classy moves like playing for your original team one last time are what make “Flower” a true legend. Oftentimes he was described as being the ultimate “glue guy” — the type of player who lifted others up, kept morale high, and led by example.
Having teammates like that in sports plays a massive role in winning. Similarly, “glue guys” in the faith are invaluable to winning the battles we face. We see this truth played out in Exodus 17. When Moses becomes tired, Aaron and Hur stand beside him and hold up his arms. As a result, Moses remains steady until sunset, allowing Joshua and the Israel army to defeat the Amalekites in battle.
As a follower of Jesus, we should strive to be the ultimate “glue guy” (or girl), not just on the teams we play for, but even more so within the faith community. Our goal should be to lift others up, keep morale high, and lead by example so God’s Kingdom can advance.
