GET IN THE GAME PODCAST: Dayton Moore - Kansas City Royals GM

THIS IS THE GET IN THE GAME PODCAST
WITH SCOTT LINEBRINK

Dayton Moore was perfectly content with where he was, serving as the assistant general manager for the Atlanta Braves. Several teams courted him to serve as their general manager, but each time he felt God telling him to stay put. That was until the Kansas City Royals, his boyhood team, came calling, and in 2006 he was named the general manger — a role he’s held since.

On today’s podcast, Moore talks with Scott Linebrink about how he’s always approached his job by putting the organization and others ahead of himself, what servant leadership looks like, and how he makes encouraging others a pivotal part of his job.

Under Moore’s leadership, the Royals went to back-to-back World Series and won the title in 2015, the first for the organization since 1985. He shares how he follows his faith in Jesus to be the leader that he is.

“I know that it’s impossible for me to lead well as a husband, as a father, as a general manager, in my community unless I’m a follower,” he says. “I’ve got to follow something, and I’ve got to lean into something, and for me that’s Jesus.”
