NEW PODCAST: Steve Carter - Author, Speaker, Pastor

THIS IS EPISODE 517 OF THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST

Steve Carter is a pastor and speaker, and he co-hosts the “Home Team” podcast with ESPN personality Samantha Ponder and NFL player Sam Acho.

Carter has been a pastor for many years, and in 2016 he released his first book, “This Invitational Life: Risking Yourself to Align with God’s Heartbeat for Humanity.”

On this episode of the podcast, we talk to Carter about his love affair with Michigan football, the NBA, Michael Jordan and when we’ll see sports again. He also shares how his faith took shape, what he learned going through dark moments in his life, growing up without a dad, standing up for what is right, and the importance of leading with humility and integrity.

Still hands down one of the greatest speeches I’ve ever heard and still gives me chills every time I hear Bo Schembechler say these words: ⁣ ⁣ ⁣“We want the Big Ten championship and we're gonna win it as a Team. They can throw out all those great backs, and great quarterbacks, and great defensive players, throughout the country and in this conference, but there's gonna be one Team that's gonna play solely as a Team. No man is more important than The Team. No coach is more important than The Team. The Team, The Team, The Team, and if we think that way, all of us, everything that you do, you take into consideration what effect does it have on my Team? Because you can go into professional football, you can go anywhere you want to play after you leave here. You will never play for a Team again. You'll play for a contract. You'll play for this. You'll play for that. You'll play for everything except the team, and think what a great thing it is to be a part of something that is, The Team. We're gonna win it. We're gonna win the championship again because we're gonna play as team, better than anybody else in this conference, we're gonna play together as a team. We're gonna believe in each other, we're not gonna criticize each other, we're not gonna talk about each other, we're gonna encourage each other. And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know, it's gonna be Michigan again, Michigan." ⁣ One of the surprises of this season has been the @hometeam_pod for me. Each time we record now in different locations, it feels more like a small group where we spend time talking about life, faith and family. Out of these honest conversations came the idea to start sharing our stories. @samanthaponder went first and led with such vulnerability, then @thesamacho unpacked from his life the power of belonging and today I get to share my story. Even though moments like these often make me feel nervous, I’m profoundly grateful to God for the Home Team Podcast, for this little small group that happens between the three of us on zoom weekly and for the growing community of people who tune in. Hope this blesses you. Grace + Peace. 📸: @blainehogan
