Ryan Smyth played 19 NHL seasons, mostly with the Oilers after being selected sixth overall in the 1994 NHL Draft by Edmonton. He also appeared with New York Islanders, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings.
Smyth retired after the 2013-14 season, finishing his career with 386 goals and 842 points. In 2023, Smyth was named to the inaugural Edmonton Oilers Hall of Fame class along with legends Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and others.
Today on the podcast, we talk to Ryan Smyth about retirement, being included in that inaugural Oilers Hall of Fame class, growing up in a Christian home, and his struggle with making hockey his god.
