THIS IS THE RECALIBRATED PODCAST
WITH MALLORY BROWN
Janie Reed is a wife, daughter and Olympic softball player. Her husband, Jake Reed, is a professional baseball player.
Reed was a former All-American at the University of Oregon and was selected by the Dallas Charge in the 2015 National Pro Fastpitch Draft, but chose to focus her career on playing for Team USA. She played for the U.S. in the 2018 World Cup and was selected to the 2020 Olympic team, which will compete in the Summer 2021 Games after being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reed is also the co-founder of a ministry called Church On The Dirt, which seeks to “merge the worlds of faith and softball nationally, by sharing the love of Christ to coaches, families, and athletes when they are unable to attend church.” Reed says that for many players to reach the highest level of the sport, they have to play travel softball, and those tournaments usually hold their championships on Sundays. So rather than players having to either miss church or choose between playing or attending church, the ministry brings the church to them.
She joined the podcast to talk about building faith and spiritual maturity, the battle of making idols out of earthly things, identity, staying grounded amid success, and sharing her faith with others.
