OneCoach: The Future Is in God’s Hand

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9

I remember reading about a high school football coach who was up for a job at a new high school. He had previously been a top assistant at one of the state’s best programs before taking his first head coaching job at a mediocre program. In a short time, though, he brought respectability to the program and now had his sights set on the job at the new school.

Surprisingly, though, he didn’t get the job. It went to someone without any head coaching experience. Shortly after, he took a job at another school about four hours away on the coast. When asked if he was disappointed, he responded by saying that, even though he desired the job at the new high school, God must have had other plans.

More than 10 years later, he led his team to the school’s first state championship in football.

Sometimes, or maybe a lot of times, we think we know what’s best or we think we know the best road to take.

Isn’t it comforting to know that we have a sovereign God who knows the future and knows what is best for us?
