Former gymnast extends forgiveness, shares Gospel with sexual abuser in court

Former gymnast Rachael Denhollander shared a half-hour testimony on Wednesday to the court and her abuser during the sentencing of former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nasser, who molested her 16 years ago at his Michigan State University clinic.

What she said directly to the man who abused her and countless other girls in a manipulative and horrific way is an incredible testimony to the grace, justice and truth found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Should you ever reach the point of truly facing what you have done, the guilt will be crushing. And that is what makes the Gospel of Christ so sweet. Because it extends grace, and hope, and mercy, where none should be found. And it will be there for you. I pray you experience the soul-crushing weight of guilt, so that you may someday experience true repentance and true forgiveness from God, which you need far more than forgiveness from me, though I extend that to you as well.”

Nasser was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison, a judge announced Wednesday, after more than 150 women and girls said in court that he sexually abused them over the past two decades.

Please join us in praying for all the victims, and everyone involved in this terrible ordeal.

“The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because He does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9
