“Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” — John 12:24

In sports, players come and go. To progress as a team, you need to say “hello” to new players and “goodbye” to others. Many times, a player needs a different environment that’s better for his/her development. In life, to see a person or family flourish, they may have to relocate to a new state or city. Saying goodbye is tough, but not making changes could stunt the growth of a person, family or team.

God wants to produce new life in you in the season ahead. But to see new life form, something else usually needs to be put to death. Jesus said it like this: “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds” (John 12:24).

For the kind of growth you truly long for, certain things in your mind, heart and life need to die. To see new life, we all have certain habits, passions, behaviors and ways of thinking that should die. Truly, our whole “old self” must be put to death in Christ in order to be raised in Him.

When Jesus spoke of His own coming death, His followers tried to dissuade Him. But Jesus knew that for all of us to have the chance of life, He needed to die.

As you start a new season, what part of you needs to die so you might walk with even more life?
