No matter what team you play on, there are a few constants. One of them is that you’d better know who is calling the shots and what they want. The coach is the authority and no matter what strategy you think is right, their strategic decisions are the ones you need to carry out.

If Jesus is the authority in your life, God’s will is your primary goal. What does He want from you? How do you live in a way that pleases Him? Doing God’s will is the goal, but you can’t get there without first knowing God’s will.

In a sense, God’s will for your life isn’t terribly complicated. And even though you’re uniquely created to use your gifts for His glory, the general will of God is the same for every person: He wants you to know Him. He wants you to surrender your life to Him. He wants you to repent of sin, cherish His Word, and be transformed to be more like Jesus. That’s a very large target that can encompass countless decisions you make every day. It isn’t a tiny pinpoint on a wall that you’re aiming at.

As you submit your life to God and long to be like Him, you don’t need to live in fear that you’ll miss His will. He’ll lead you into His specific will for your life as you walk with Him.
