“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 6:23

Some religions teach that when you die, God will take all your good deeds and bad deeds and put them on a scale. If the good outweighs the bad, He will accept you. But that’s not what the Bible teaches. Romans 3:23 says every person has the same spiritual condition, as we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Our sin is punishable by death. Not just a physical death, but eternal condemnation and separation from God. This can’t be counterbalanced on some cosmic scale by our good deeds. According to the Bible, there is no scale in Heaven, only a Savior. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” And it’s all because of God’s great love for us.

Titus 3:4-7 wraps it up well: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”

Those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ aren’t looking for a scale because they’ve found a Savior!
