Often, we wait to pray, we wait for the answer, and then wait to go. But in 1 Samuel 14, we see a man, Jonathan, who had such great confidence in God’s ability to deliver that he started on his way despite others’ doubt and pushback. “Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, ‘Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few’” (v. 6).
As he went, Jonathan devised a sign to determine the Lord’s will. And when God clarified that he had His blessing, Jonathan and his armor-bearer experienced a great victory. They became the spark that set the rest of the Israelite army on fire. Everyone else was waiting for someone else to step up. Everyone else was making excuses. And everyone else was complaining. But not Jonathan.
In some seasons, we must take the step for things to start. Jonathan makes three faith-filled declarations about his God: 1) Maybe God will work for us; 2) There’s no rule that says that God can only deliver by using a big army; 3) No one can stop God from saving when He sets His mind to it.
Jonathan and his armor-bearer stepped into a moment together. They trusted the Lord’s provision and started something that the Lord would help them finish.
What moment do you need to step into today? Step in. Step out. Step up.
