“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34 (ESV)
Carpe Diem
In the 2007 NFL season, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots worked their way to a perfect 16-0 regular season record. All throughout the season, the media constantly questioned them about going undefeated, winning 16 games and the record set by the 1972 Miami Dolphins. The response to all of those questions from every player and coach was the same cliché, “We are taking it one game at a time.” The Patriots found success and a 16-0 record because they kept a single focus on the present and didn’t worry about the road ahead.
In today’s fast-paced world, it has become increasingly difficult to focus on one day at a time. Christ tells us specifically to focus on today and only today. As followers of Christ I challenge you to only worry about the day at hand; I urge you to focus, maximize the day and conquer the challenges of today only. Tomorrow may or may not be there, so don’t worry too much about it. ‘Carpe Diem’ is Latin for seize the day, so I encourage you to do that; take today’s challenges head on and make the most of the time God has given you.
