Lions QB Chase Daniel helps COVID-19 relief efforts with 'Chase Chats' while foundation is in Christ

Detroit Lions quarterback Chase Daniel is leveraging his platform as an NFL player to help in COVID-19 relief efforts through his new show “Chase Chats.” The show features online conversations between Daniel and various players and coaches he’s crossed paths with during his football career.

With the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the U.S., Daniel has announced a special episode of “Chase Chats” to reunite members of the 2007 Missouri football team that he quarterbacked to a 12-2 record. The show will be broadcast on Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m. CT on his Twitter and Facebook pages. It’s designed to help raise money to support The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri, and Daniel has pledged to match every gift up to $25,000.

Daniel said he has already helped raise over $73,000. Donations can be made here.

“I’m thrilled to be able to catch up with my former Mizzou teammates and help The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri tackle hunger as part of ‘Chase Chats,'” Daniel said in his tweet to promote the cause. “That’s why I’m challenging you to donate. I will match every gift up to $25,000. Tune in and join me on the mission to feed people affected by the COVID-19 crisis.”

Daniel was a guest on the Sports Spectrum Podcast last month to discuss his deal with Detroit, “Chase Chats” and his relationship with Christ.

The 33-year-old quarterback spoke about his one year with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016, the struggles he had on the field and how his faith was strengthened during that time.

“God didn’t put me in this place for football necessarily, He put me in it to test my faith and to help me to grow my faith,” he said.

Daniel said that right now God is revealing to him how he can represent Christ every day through his work as an NFL player, even with uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season.

“What I’m doing is way bigger than football. It’s for the glory of God. I think that’s something I’m learning and I’m going through, and it’s opening up my eyes once again,” he said.

Daniel spent four successful college seasons at the University of Missouri from 2005-2008. He went 30-11 as a starter in his final three years and was a Heisman Trophy finalist during the 2007 campaign. Daniel won Super Bowl XLIV backing up Drew Brees with the New Orleans Saints at the end of his first NFL season in 2009.

In March, Daniel signed a three-year contract with the Detroit Lions (virtually, due to the pandemic). Detroit will be Daniel’s sixth stop in his NFL career (including two stints in New Orleans).
