“O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free,
rolling as a mighty ocean
in its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me,
is the current of Thy love;
leading onward, leading homeward,
to Thy glorious rest above.”
Have you ever received a lavish gift, a gift so great that it was almost too much to handle? God’s gift of love for us is one such gift. The words of the old hymn by Samuel Trevor Francis quoted above seek to describe the vastness of God’s love for us. In the Bible, Paul prays that we might comprehend the width, length, height and depth of God’s love for us (Ephesians 3:18).
Why is this important to grasp? God’s love invites us into and maintains our relationship with Himself. His love has the power to transform us from the inside out. We are able to love others because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). It is because God has poured out His love in our hearts that we can endure hardships.
While we can never fully comprehend God’s love, we can experience the power of His love. What a comfort and joy it is to know that no matter what is happening in our lives, God’s love is greater and lavished on us in abundance.
Where do you need to experience God’s unconditional, lavish love in your life? Pray He makes His love real to you, then rest in His love.
