“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.” — Psalm 19:1-2

Jayden Daniels was already named the Washington Commanders starting quarterback for the 2024 regular season before the last preseason game. Head coach Dan Quinn elected to not play Daniels in the last exhibition because he didn’t want to risk injury to his franchise quarterback, in hopes of seeing high production in his rookie year. Daniels’ talent is obvious, but staying healthy while playing such a physically challenging game is not easy.
Our Creator makes the human body resilient, and we are often able to bounce back fairly quickly after injury. In fact, the human body is quite amazing, and will leave you in awe as you learn about the intricacies of the systems that make it up.
Our wise and powerful Creator made everything out of nothing. The bright sunshine, blue sky, green grass, flying birds, swimming fish, running rabbits and everything else we see on the earth, including humans, point to His power. In order to make a sandwich, we need several ingredients — bread, mayonnaise, mustard, meat, lettuce, tomato. Similarly, we must have materials such as concrete, bricks or lumber to begin to build a house. But the Lord didn’t need one molecule to start His incredible work.
In the Bible, nature is described as a messenger showing us the Almighty exists. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge” (Psalm 19:1-2). If we never heard a word spoken, we could still realize God is real because who else could make a star or a hippopotamus?
When the apostle Paul wanted to introduce God to people who weren’t familiar with churches, he started by speaking about our Maker. We can know in our hearts that the Lord is out there even though we may not know much about Him. We may not want to believe — and we may prefer to live our lives without allowing God to influence our decisions — but God is still real. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
Appreciating nature is a good starting point for learning about God’s character, but reading the Bible helps us better understand His own nature and hear of how the Lord works in and through the lives of all kinds of people. The Lord reaches down to where we are and enjoys helping us, forgiving us and restoring us when we disappoint Him. God sends out Christians to bring more people into God’s family by sharing wonderful truths about salvation. “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ” (Romans 10:17).
Jesus proved His power through His miracles, but He also preached and spoke to many to deposit the words of eternal life to generations to come, so they may also experience the greatest gift.
