“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
No Fear
Mark Knowles and Dan Nestor had been doubles partners since 1994. Over the next 13 years, they formed a strong partnership that brought them much success in the world of tennis. Learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses and how to best work together, they became a force to be reckoned with. Even up to their last year playing together in 2007, they were a winning pair.
So you can imagine the shock and disappointment when Nestor told Knowles, after experiencing a slump for a few months, that he was moving on. The announcement could have certainly brought a great deal of fear and uncertainty about the future for Knowles as a professional. But he was able to remain at peace and open to God’s leading.
The Bible commands us, over and over, not to be afraid or discouraged because the Lord is with us. That promise is not just for good times, but for all times. In fact, it doesn’t only tell us what not to do but what to do, as well. Be strong and courageous. This strength comes because we have the assurance that God is with us.
No matter what situation you may be facing now, or what unforeseen circumstance is headed your way, remember God’s expectation. We have no reason to be frightened or disheartened because God is right there in every situation with us. And He will lead us in His path, no matter where that may take us.
