“Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; He showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. ” — Genesis 39:20-22

The Same God

“Life isn’t fair.”

We have heard this phrase many times. Why do we have to endure some situations that are more harsh than other people who seem to be untouched in their trouble-free life? Joseph was a prime example of a man who did no wrong, loved the Lord, yet had to endure 13 years of being a servant or a prisoner. But nevertheless, God was always with him.

We often connect a setback, lost job, relapse, ended relationship, etc., as something we did wrong. Why am I being punished for this? That’s what the enemy wants you to think. But the better question to ask is: How am I being positioned from this? That’s what God wants you to think!

Joseph could never have experienced an ascent to second-in-charge of the entire kingdom of Egypt unless he was positioned in prison first. Sometimes God will bring us to places we never wanted to go in order to elevate us to places we never could have dreamed.

Maybe your season is a bit dark. There is a “prison” you are residing in currently. Lots of questions and anxious-filled moments. Rest assured, though, that your rise from the ashes is coming. Because the God who delivered Joseph from waking in prison to sleeping in a palace in 12 hours is the same God who is positioning you right now.
