“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6

The Next Step

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us that our understanding is limited and we don’t always see the whole picture, but God does. God knows our past, present and our future, and we can trust Him. Psalm 33:4 says, “For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.”

God knows the way, but we can’t see what’s in front of us. We have to take the next step in faith, trusting Him. Sometimes He leads us to do things that just make no sense to us or to others around us. He recently led me to apply to graduate school, something I did not necessarily plan on doing. I had considered it but actually laughed at myself and thought, “What’s the use? I’ll be 52 by the time I’m done.”

But then God reminded me several times and in different ways (as He often does to get my attention) of the story of Abraham and Sarah. Sarah laughed when God said she’d have a child when she was 90 years old. I would have laughed too! But God was faithful to His word and Sarah had Isaac in her old age.

It’s never too late for God to fulfill His plans, but we have to take those steps of faith, trusting Him to lead us. Is God asking you to trust Him for something you don’t understand? Submit your will to His. You can trust Him.
