“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.” — Psalm 84:5-7

From Strength to Strength

When my family first moved from Indiana to Colorado, we often made the long haul of a drive back to Indiana to visit family and friends — 18 hours on the road with five young children. Sometimes it was fun, other times it was brutal.

One thing I learned was to keep my eyes on the final destination. Our motivation to make it through the long drive was knowing what was waiting for us at the other end of it.

Psalm 84:5-7 talks about another journey — the journey of life here on earth. Sometimes it is fun, other times it is brutal. The word Baka is literally translated “tears.” I have to admit there were many tears on our long drives, not just the kids’ but also mine! The good news is that our eternal destination is the motivation in our life journey.

The Word tells us that we are blessed when we rely on the Lord for our strength and walk with Him in this life.  We literally go from strength to strength! And when we do that, the valley of tears is turned to a place of refreshing.

May you be encouraged and strengthened in whatever stage of the journey you are walking in this week as you keep your eyes on Jesus!
