“But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” — Psalm 73:28

Intimacy with God

Growing up as a kid in the Church, my perception of being a Christian was about Bible study and rule-following. I pictured God as this cosmic mean guy ready to come down on me if I did something wrong. As I’ve grown and matured in my faith, I now understand I had a flawed perception of God. I understand now that God desires relationship, a deep and intimate relationship, and His greatest desire is for us to trust Him and draw near to Him.

I’ve heard intimacy defined as the experience of knowing and being known by another. It is such a sweet privilege to know God and be known by Him, and trust is the key to that deep intimacy. The more we walk with God and learn to trust Him, the deeper our intimacy with Him grows.

God wanted intimacy with us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us so that our sin would not be able to separate us from Him. Intimacy with His children is His greatest joy. He is not some cosmic mean guy, He is the lover of our souls!
