“And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” — 1 John 2:17

Hold Onto Truth

Sports junkie? Check. ESPN, MLB Network, NFL Network, Golf Channel addict? Check.

Initially, I wondered how I’d get through this trying time without the ability to watch live sports on television. For a couple of days, I tuned into ESPN and MLB Network, just to see how the “sports world” would respond to this ever-changing set of circumstances we’ve been dealt. But after a couple of days, it just became noise.

I believe we’d all pack the bleachers or tune into our TVs if Major League Baseball was given the “all clear.” But for now, I’m good.

It’s amazing when we take our attention off certain things — we can be reminded of what’s most important, what truly is worthy of our time. No doubt, most of us would say family is among the very most important things in our lives. But to be put in a position where suddenly you’re with your family for an extended period of time, that’s a real eye-opener and heart-opener!

God is using this time — despite the very real and critical issues this pandemic has caused in the world — to do good! He knew about this before the world was formed. Before you were formed. Before this virus was formed. And He will use this time to glorify Himself, and draw people to Himself.

I’ve witnessed this over the past two weeks. People are looking for peace, comfort and stability during an unsettling time. The Holy Spirit already provides that to those who know Jesus. And for those who don’t yet know, God’s still in the business of allowing inconveniences (and yes, even pandemics) for a greater good — salvation through Jesus.

In this uncertain time, we still can hold onto unchanging Truth. And compared to that, all else fades away.
