“Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

Turn It Over

As the NBA trading deadline approaches later this month, and certain teams look to boost their rosters to make a run for a playoff spot, many basketball fans wonder who might end up in their city or on their favorite team. The Brooklyn Nets recently made a big splash as they announced the signing of six-time All-Star Blake Griffin. Other players often being talked about are Bradley Beal, Victor Oladipo and Andre Drummond.

It’s amazing that they could be home one day and in a completely different city the next day, trying to find their way around, frantically looking for a place to live, getting their family settled in, and still having to go to work and perform like there are no other stressors in their lives. Maybe “work” is more of a “release” at that point.

As Christians, we need a “release” from the stress of our lives as well. Some days we need it more than others because our burdens just seem heavier than normal.

While there are many helpful ways to relieve stress, Jesus asks us to let Him do the work on our behalf. I think He takes pleasure in relieving us of our burdens. I think He is pleased when we trust Him enough to let Him handle the stressors in our lives. It brings joy to the heart of God when His children discover how much He loves them and allow Him to take their anxieties upon Himself.

Whatever burden you are bearing today, realize that God longs to shoulder it for you.
