“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” — Matthew 24:36

Even Better

When the Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, 86 years after their last championship, people in New England were ecstatic. Many people had waited their whole lives to see the Red Sox win it all, and they were finally rewarded. There were a few elderly people that died within days of the Red Sox victory, and people said they were holding on to see the championship so they could die in peace.

As Christians, we have something even better to look forward to, and that is the return of Jesus to earth to take all who believe in Him back with Him to Heaven. We don’t know when He will return, so we must all be ready. It could be in 86 years, like Red Sox fans had to wait. It could be 108 years, like Cubs fans had to wait. Or it could be only one year, like Dodgers fans have waited since their championship last season.

Yet, there is one thing we do know, and that is that Jesus will return some day. We must be ready.

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.” — Matthew 24:42-44
