Daily Devotional: Wednesday, August 4 - Walk As Children Of Light

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.” — Ephesians 5:8-10

Six years into my career, I was stuck in Double-A for the third year. I didn’t have a pitch that made me stand out. My pitching coach, Glenn Abbott, began working with me on a grip he used to help him throw a sinker.

I worked on the new grip for months. It was uncomfortable at first and the results weren’t great. But one day during a bullpen session, I felt the pitch come off my finger and the bottom dropped out of the ball as it crossed home plate. Abby asked if I could repeat the pitch and I did. Less than a year later, I was pitching in the major leagues.

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.”  — Ephesians 5:8-10

As followers of Jesus, we learn what pleases God and then walk in His ways. Paul says in 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Others watch how we talk, how we walk, how we love, how we trust God when things don’t go our way and how we keep ourselves pure in the world.

We must continue to live in truth in all circumstances. Be patient, keep learning and walk like the light that you are!
