“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” — Ephesians 4:29-31

I have been a chaplain working with youth basketball for eight years now. And one thing I’ve learned is that basketball, or any team sport, is just a medium through which we are able to develop or mature in character and skill. I often talk to kids about the “court of life,” where they should seek to be kind and pass the ball. A kind word is one of the best assists in life.
Unfortunately, there are so many things keeping us busy and distracted nowadays, leaving us more stressed and less likely to be kind to others. Social media and the internet are big factors, as they can distract us from our families or, through what we read, even cause a disconnect in family values. They have the potential to steal our future.
There is a hidden social engineering agenda going on. In the old days, we called it “brainwashing.” But advertisers are no longer seeking just money; they want as much control over our lives as they can gain. They want to dictate what you buy and also what you think. This is the spirit of the antichrist.
Yet, there is only one true King who should influence what we think. His name is Jesus Christ. Follow Him. Serve only Him. More than 2000 years ago, Jesus came to die and defeat the devil and his plan. He died on that cross to save us. And this includes saving us from things like the internet. It may be a great tool for connecting us, but we must be careful to submit only to the King of kings and His Word and that which glorifies Him!
As you submit to and serve the only true King, you will learn to become more like Jesus. From what you learn, be sure to pass it on!
