The story of professional surfer Bethany Hamilton is well-known, how as a 13-year-old she miraculously survived a shark attack in which she lost her left arm. It didn’t take long before she got back in the water and continued her professional surfing career, becoming a worldwide inspiration.

In the movie “Soul Surfer,” based on Hamilton’s journey, the Bible verse Philippians 4:13 is mentioned multiple times. That’s because it was Bethany’s faith in Jesus that got her back in the water. After experiencing trauma, she hung onto the belief that with God she can do anything.

Through Bethany’s story, we see the Lord working and showing that all things are possible with Him. She survived the unimaginable and became a voice and inspiration to many.

Just like Bethany, we too can do anything God has planned for us because of our faith in Jesus. It’s easy to forget that God is in control and He oversees everything that happens in our lives. We may have our plans, but His plans for us are greater than the failures and setbacks we will inevitably experience.

After something traumatic or tragic happens to us, it’s easy to feel like God isn’t there. But He is right there in control of every circumstance, giving us the strength to do anything. Nothing is impossible with Jesus if we tap into His greater plan for the darkness we go through.
