When I ran track in college, my metabolism was so high that I would consume tons of food but never be satisfied. Many of us can feel this way spiritually.

Philosopher Blaise Pascal once said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ.” What he was saying is that we all have a spiritual hunger. We try to satisfy that hunger with pleasure and possessions, but physical pleasure and possessions can’t satisfy a spiritual hunger. So where can we find satisfaction for our spiritual hunger?

In John 6:35, Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.” Right before this, He fed 5,000 men with just five loaves of bread and two fish (and that doesn’t include the women and children who were fed too). They asked for more bread and fish, but instead of physical bread, Jesus offered them spiritual bread — He offered Himself to them. He told them that if they consume Him, they will be spiritually satisfied and receive eternal life. Jesus tells us that by believing in Him, we consume Him and are nourished. In John 6:56, we find that as we keep believing in Him, we will stay connected to Him.

Have you trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? If you have trusted Him, are you reading the Bible to consume it, believe what it says, and do it?
