“Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” — Revelation 21:27

If you played sports in school, you probably remember tryouts. For a few days, you’d do some drills, run some plays, get tested, and try your best. After tryouts, you’d wait nervously for the roster of teams to be posted outside the coach’s office or the locker room. Some make the freshman team, others the junior varsity team, and others the coveted varsity team.
Some don’t make a team at all and are very disappointed. After looking at the team rosters, some complain, some text their friends and family, and others begin planning for next year’s tryouts.
For those who would rather erase memories of tryouts because you didn’t make a certain team or you experienced the negative end of favoritism, in the grand scheme of life and eternity, it really doesn’t matter what team you made. And eventually, even the greatest of athletes don’t make a team and are forced to retire or quit playing.
But there is a team roster that is of utmost importance to make sure you are on: God’s book of life (Revelation 20:15).
One day, everyone will stand before the great throne, the judgment seat. It will be the tryout of tryouts. Eternity is at stake. But here is the good news: If you have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, your name will be in the book of life. You made the team! And not because you tried, but because you trusted the Lord Jesus Christ.
