Jersey sales often tell the story of the most popular football players. After Saquon Barkley moved from the New York Giants to the Philadelphia Eagles through free agency, he had one of his best seasons and may have made the difference in propelling the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Barkley gets lots of attention for scoring touchdowns and getting first downs, but it’s important for players not to bask too much in the glory given to them and remember that each player is a small part of a big organization and a higher goal.

Though Moses got a glimpse of God at the burning bush when God spoke to him, he had doubts and fears after he started leading the Israelites and pleaded with God to give him another visible demonstration. The Lord was patient with Moses and allowed him to see a portion of the Lord as He passed by over the mountain. God said no sinful human is able to see the fullness of God here on earth, but Moses saw God’s back and the sight was unforgettable. “‘But,’ he said, ‘you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live'” (Exodus 33:20).

God is glorious because He is absolutely perfect, completely pure, and infinite in power. The glory of God is shown many times in the Bible. He did miracles in Egypt to set the Israelites free, and in the wilderness where God preserved the lives of the Jewish people for 40 years. Then King Solomon and a host of Israelites saw God’s glory when the temple was built and dedicated. “When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord. And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple” (1 Kings 8:10-11).

God has always existed. He never ages and He will always be. We need to focus on the spiritual world and lift up God’s name to honor and adore our God. He is worthy of the greatest admiration because nobody compares to Him. “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness” (Psalm 29:2).

God’s glory is so far beyond our ability that we will never be able to reach God’s perfect standard. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Therefore, we should be careful to praise God rather than ourselves or some other human with faults. “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness” (Psalm 115:1). However, even sinful people can bring glory to God when we put God first in our lives and keep our eyes on Jesus. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Who (or what) gets the glory in your life? Where is your focus?
