“It was your will and purpose to do this; you have done all these great things in order to instruct me. How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is none like you; we have always known that you alone are God.” — 2 Samuel 7:21-22 (GNT)

Have you ever said something like, “God, when I get this money, I’ll give more. When I get a bigger platform, I’ll speak more. If You put me in position, I’ll glorify You more”? And then God comes through … but you don’t.
It’s easy to make promises in anticipation, but how many of us actually pause with sincere gratitude when we arrive? How many take the calm, humble posture of thanksgiving — not for what we expect, but for what God has already done?
Gratitude should be our first response. For the God who chose us, equipped us and launched us. For the One who deserves more than our words — He deserves our praise.
King David modeled this beautifully. In 2 Samuel 7:18-24 (GNT), he pours out his heart: “Sovereign Lord, I am not worthy of what you have already done for me… Yet now you are doing even more… What more can I say to you! You know me… How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is none like you… The great and wonderful things you did for them have spread your fame throughout the world.”
David recognized that every blessing, every promise, every victory was God’s doing. And he responded, not with entitlement, but with awe. When was the last time you cried out not just for what you want, but for who God is? When did you last praise Him for His character, not just His provision?
Take a moment. Pause. Praise. And say, “God, thank You for being You.”
