“So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.” — 2 Timothy 1:8 (NLT)

Athletes and coaches have a special influence. This gift from God has been abused and neglected by many, but well-stewarded by plenty more. Tools like social media have played their part, time and time again.
Thankfully, social media wasn’t too prominent during my career. If you weren’t coding hidden music on MySpace, you were probably uploading hundreds of pictures on Facebook recapping the weekend. Regardless, it wasn’t completely consuming. With a screen name and email, we displayed parts of our lives that we wanted people to see.
With the skills and talents God has given, I pray we utilize our platforms to share our testimony about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While the world is vocal about everything opposing the Bible, believers should be bold about the most important thing that sets us apart — Jesus!
Bragging to my teammates about eateries and destinations was easy, but sharing my faith was challenging. During postgame interviews, I never spoke about Jesus or my walk with God because I was embarrassed. Talking about Jesus wasn’t “trending” and I wasn’t courageous enough when the mic was in my hand.
I’m so grateful God now allows me to share His Gospel at the same school where I once stood silent. Never be ashamed to give honor where honor is due. Second Timothy 1:8a (NLT) reminds us to “never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord.” Constantly reciprocate your gratitude by glorifying God every chance you get. People are tuning in, so lead them to the Lord! Find different ways to share your testimony about God’s goodness.
