Daily Devotional: Tuesday, April 7 – Right Place, Right Time

“So [Philip] started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake. … And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.” — Acts 8:27a, 38

In early 2025, I got a text message from a good friend who is a pastor in Texas, and he told me that a good friend of his, Will, had just signed to play with the Iowa Wolves. My friend let me know Will was looking for a church to attend while in Des Moines and also looking to connect with other Christians.

My friend then asked if I ever went to any of the Wolves’ games. I let him know I was the Wolves’ team chaplain. My pastor friend was surprised and shocked. He quickly put Will and I on a text thread and connected us, and I connected Will with several other Christians on the Wolves. He came to the team chapel and found a home in Des Moines.

Even though he is no longer with the Wolves, Will and me still stay in contact — all because I was in the right place at the right time.

In Acts 8:26-40, Philip, one of the first deacons at the church in Jerusalem, was leaving the city and ran into an Ethiopian who was also leaving Jerusalem. Philip shared the Gospel with him and after the Ethiopian put his faith in Christ, Philip baptized him. Philip was in the right place at the right time.

As you go about your day today, look for those God-ordained “in the right place at the right time” moments. God has you right where He needs you to be to make a difference in someone else’s life.

— Ikki Soma, Iowa Wolves chaplain
