What does it actually mean to stay close to Jesus? It’s simpler than you think. And harder.

It means talking to Him, not just when you need something, but because you actually want to know Him. It means reading His words and letting them shape how you see the world. It means paying attention to where He’s at work and joining Him there.

He doesn’t stand at a distance shouting instructions at you. He invites you close. “Come be with Me,” He says. “Walk with Me. Learn from Me.” And as you do, something happens. You start to think like Him, respond like Him, see the world like Him. Not because you’re trying harder, but because you’re staying closer. Proximity takes the pressure off.

Jesus didn’t give the disciples a 12-step program for spiritual growth. He said, “Follow Me. Stay close. Watch Me. Be with Me.”

What would it look like to prioritize proximity to Jesus over self-improvement? Instead of focusing on fixing yourself, what’s one way you could simply be with Him — talking to Him, reading His words, paying attention to His presence in your life? Transformation doesn’t come through striving. It comes through abiding in Jesus. It comes through proximity.

Maybe you’ve heard the saying, “If you don’t feel close to God, who moved?” In Matthew 28:20b (ESV), Jesus says, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” He’s always with us, offering His peace through His presence. It’s on us to stay close.
