SS PODCAST: Former NFL player Willie Buchanon on his faith in Christ, surviving a stroke

Willie Buchanon played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers. He was selected seventh overall in the 1972 NFL Draft by the Packers, and in his first season was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 1974 and 1978.

After seven seasons in Green Bay, Buchanon moved to San Diego and played his final four seasons with the Chargers. After his football career came to an end, Buchanon was named to the San Diego Chargers’ 50th anniversary team, as well as the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

Today on the podcast, we talk to Willie Buchanon about his NFL playing career, growing up as a pastor’s kid and living as a follower of Christ. He also shares his miraculous story of surviving a stroke and how being prepared helped save his life.
