SS PODCAST: Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac on redefining greatness, faith in NBA

THIS IS THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST WITH MATT FORTE AND JASON ROMANO, FEATURING JONATHAN ISAAC

Jonathan Isaac is a forward with the Orlando Magic and one of the most elite defenders in the NBA. He was selected sixth overall in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Florida State, and in July signed a five-year contract extension.

He became a regular starter in 2018-19, and was enjoying a breakout season in 2019-20 — averaging 11.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game — before knee injuries shortened that season and caused him to miss the entire 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. He returned to the court in January 2023, but played only 11 games before suffering an adductor injury. Last season, he played in 58 games and helped the Magic to a playoff berth.

His time away from basketball allowed him to become an author — his book, “Why I Stand,” released in May 2022 — and the founder of UNITUS, a clothing and apparel brand launched in July 2023.

Today on the podcast, Jonathan Isaac joins Matt Forte and Jason Romano to discuss what it means to redefine greatness, faith in the NBA locker room, the mental battle with injuries, combatting anxiety with the Word of God, and Isaac’s new basketball shoe featuring Bible verses.
