Water Mission is blessed to have strong relationships with professional athletes who are eager to use their platforms to help others. These individuals use their reputation and influence to increase awareness of the global water crisis and tell others about Water Mission. So far in 2024, multiple current and former athletes have already used their platforms to change lives through safe water.

During MLB spring training in Arizona, current and former professional athletes gathered together at an Uncork for a Cause charity wine event to benefit Water Mission. Uncork for a Cause is an organization that “pairs professional athletes and celebrities with national and local nonprofit organizations to help raise awareness and funding throughout their communities.” This event was hosted by Water Mission friend and supporter Drew Stanton, a former NFL quarterback.
Dozens of people were in attendance to respond to the global water crisis and show their support for Water Mission’s work around the world. Thanks to the generosity of this group, enough funds were raised to provide 600 people with safe and Living Water through Water Mission’s solutions. These people are an example of the difference that can be made when a community rallies together in support of those in need.

Later that month, another group of athletes gathered in Florida for the Professional Athletes Outreach (PAO) Increase Conference. This is an annual gathering where Christian athletes come together to worship, fellowship and learn about ways they can get involved with ministries and organizations making a difference around the world. Water Mission hosted a dinner where participants could learn about the organization’s work, values and history.
Former NFL player Eric King spoke at the dinner and shared with those in the crowd about his and his wife’s involvement with Water Mission and their heart for the global water crisis. King and others at past PAO conferences have used this time to encourage fellow professional athletes to get off the sidelines and use their platforms to impact those in need.
Friends and partners like Stanton and King, as well as longtime Water Mission advocates such as Justin Forsett, Benjamin Watson, Adam Wainwright and many others are valuable assets in the fight against the global water crisis.
