With 2024 coming to a close, Sports Spectrum is highlighting our most-viewed stories of the year.
Hopes were high throughout the Ohio State football program entering the fall of 2024. The Buckeyes were pegged as one of the top teams in the country, boasting legitimate national title chances following the return of several notable players who could’ve opted for the NFL Draft.
Many of those players decided to return because they knew the impact they could have on campus — but not impact with their athletic skills.
A group of seniors — receiver Emeka Egbuka, running back TreVeyon Henderson, tight end Gee Scott and defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau — wanted to use their platforms for Christ. So they teamed with a couple former teammates — Kamryn Babb and Master Teague — to host an on-campus faith event in late August, the weekend before their football season kicked off. Worship music was played and each athlete shared their testimony and/or a message about God’s saving work, as thousands of students gathered in the courtyard. The night ended with the players handing out Bibles and helping those who chose to get baptized.
“Jesus changed my life, set me free from my sin, made me holy, made me righteous” Henderson said. “I’m only righteous because of what the Lord has done for me. It wasn’t anything I did, it was Jesus. It was Jesus. And He wants to do the same for you.”
As word spread around the country about the event, Sports Spectrum’s story was widely viewed — especially in the week that followed, but also throughout the college football season. It ends the year ranked No. 1 among our most-viewed stories in 2024:
