“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.” — Proverbs 1:7

Food for the Soul

I was challenged in my reading this week on a flight back home to West Virginia about my morning routine. We all have a morning routine — it could be sleeping until the last second we have, going to work out, spending time with God, or whatever it is. The challenge made me reconsider the daily habits that have really worked for me over the past few years.

“The first thing I did, after having asked in a few words the Lord’s blessing upon His precious Word, was to begin to meditate on the Word of God; searching, as it were, into every verse, to get blessing out of it, not for the sake of the public ministry of the Word; not for the sake or preaching on what I had meditated upon; but for the sake of obtaining food for my own soul.” — George Muller

So many athletes or former athletes start their mornings off with a workout of some sort. What a way to start the day. You immediately feel like you got something accomplished and you’re energized for the day after you get a good one in. But are we following this same mentality with our souls? Yes, we should take care of our bodies, but our spirit needs to be fed as well!

“So the Bible is the Word of God. And the Word of God is no trifle. It is the source of life and faith and power and hope and freedom and wisdom and comfort and assurance and victory over our greatest enemy.” — John Piper

Jesus was and is with God, and is going to come back again. We should be excited to know Him deeper, and the only way to grow that relationship is to spend time with Him. It’s a time to learn and grow through the words given to us in the Bible.

Start a streak today! A streak of devotionals, reading through a book in the Bible — just get into the Word on daily basis. Let us seek Him first.
