Sports Spectrum Daily Devotional: Wednesday, November 27

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” — Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV)

Wise Timing

I’ve heard it said before that taking a quick look at your bank account can tell you very quickly where your financial priorities lie. What is true of our finances is also true of our time. Taking a quick look at our calendars can also tell us what our priorities are, whether they are wise or unwise. Just like the financial resources we have been blessed with, we also have the valuable commodity of time to steward well.

We have a limited amount of time in our lives, and we don’t know how much time we will get. It’s easy to let time slip away and not be intentional about how we are spending it. The whole concept of time management is really a fallacy. We don’t manage time, we manage our choices about how to use the time we have.

Stewarding our time wisely actually honors God, just like stewarding our finances wisely honors God. What excess activities in your schedule do you need to cut out in order to spend your time more wisely? Is spending time with God among your priorities?

Take a look at your calendar and ask the Lord to show you where you are spending your time unwisely. Then make that change and pay attention to the results. May you be abundantly blessed.
