“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

His Perfect Peace

I have many favorite Bible verses, but Isaiah 26:3 is close to the top of the list. I repeat it to myself often when I am feeling anxious. And in these crazy times in our world, you may have found yourself, as I have, starting to become anxious as you think about what is happening.

I was watching the news coverage of the rioting in downtown Denver recently before bed, and I became anxious thinking about it all. But what ultimately came to my mind is this: What we need right now is not opinion or emotion, we need the Holy Spirit. We need our minds to stay on Jesus — the One who was able to sleep peacefully in a storm (Matthew 8:24). We need to pray and renew our mind in the Word of God (Romans 12:2), and act and speak from that place of perfect peace.

As I’m writing this, I am reminded of the song “Eye of the Storm” by Ryan Stevenson. The chorus goes like this:

In the eye of the storm, You remain in control
In the middle of the war, You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor, when my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me
In the eye of the storm.

In the eye of this storm we find ourselves in as a country and world, keep your eyes and your focus on Him. He will keep you in perfect peace.
