Daily Devotional: Friday, June 25 - Walking with God

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'” — Matthew 19:26

As a Christian, you have undoubtedly heard the verse Matthew 19:26 quoted several times, preached about in numerous sermons, or even written on a coffee mug or two. Upon reading this, we feel supported as we launch ourselves into whatever challenge lies before us. These challenges include things such as running a race and gathering the final push for the finish, taking in that deep breath before lifting that 25 pounds more on the machine, or even trying to stay awake studying for that exam looming at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.

But take another look at that verse. Focus in on the word “with.” With God all things are possible.

Behind God — walking behind Him, waiting for Him to give the green light while we (hopefully patiently) wait for Him to tell us the decision we must make. This leaves us just wringing our hands and waiting.

In front of God — walking in front of Him, making our own decisions without really considering or asking for God’s approval, and then hoping He will bless it anyway. This position really puts God in the backseat and not “directing our paths” as He wants to do.

With God — having Him walking with us, beside us, encouraging us as we slog up that hill to whatever faces us. This is true fellowship and shepherding. It is God partnering with us, persevering with us and ultimately prevailing with us.

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”  Romans 8:37
