Daily Devotional: Wednesday, September 15 - The Source

“That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers.” — Psalm 1:3

In the midst of our everyday lives here in this world, we find ourselves surrounded with popular opinions, advice, criticisms and theories on what life is truly all about, and how to make sure we are living the fullest kind of life we can possibly live. However, the secret to whether or not you will successfully live the life you were born to live depends entirely on where you have planted your roots. What source are you drawing from to feed your heart, mind and soul? Are you feeding yourself from the living water of the Word of God, or are you caught up in the winds of popular opinion?

As beloved creatures created by God and for God, we find our meaning, purpose and reason for living in the revelation of God’s plan for humanity laid out for us in the Scriptures. It is His instruction that guides how we ought to live, and we ought to find ourselves delighted by what it has to say about us. We should consistently be contemplating all its implications.

This contemplation and delight is the secret to a relationship with God and the secret to successfully living the life you were created to live. Like a tree rooted along the banks of running water, may we feed ourselves daily from the life-giving source of God’s Scripture, and may our lives produce an abundance of fruitfulness for our own joy and for the glory of God.
