Daily Devotional: Wednesday, October 12 - The Strategy Of God

“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.” — 2 Chronicles 20:17

Have you ever found yourself overwhelmed in preparing for the toughest part of your team’s schedule? Your three strongest opponents, preparing to come against you with all they have. What did you do? How did you feel? Probably something like King Jehoshaphat, who was looking for a strategy and praying for a victory.

Jehoshaphat prayed the best game-day prayer I’ve heard from a coach: “Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12).

How do you pray when you are facing a difficult task or tough opponent? Do you allow the Holy Spirit to be a part of your strategy? Are your eyes on God? Jehoshaphat invites God into his situation and then waits to hear what He might say. What God says in return is amazing:

“Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.” — 2 Chronicles 20:15-17

Take up your position. Stand firm. See the deliverance the Lord will give you. When you show up, trust and expect, you will find that God’s strategies always end in victory.
